Early Interest in Law
Karen’s interest in the legal field began in her late teens. She earned an Honours Diploma in Police Foundations from Cambrian College of Applied Arts & Technology. After graduating, she obtained her Security and Private Investigation licences and worked in both fields.
A Return to Her Passion
After moving to London, Ontario from Timmins in 2000, Karen spent several years working in manufacturing with Presstran, Formet, and Sterling Trucks. She later returned to her true passion — law.
Karen completed her Honours Diploma in Paralegal Studies in 2007. In 2009, she received her Class P1 Paralegal Licence from the Law Society of Ontario and opened her own Paralegal practice.
She later joined Accident Resolution Group, one of Ontario’s largest paralegal firms. There, she handled matters involving:
- WSIB claims
- Statutory Accident Benefits (SABS)
- Landlord and Tenant disputes
- Small Claims Court actions
- Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario applications
Becoming a Notary Public
In August 2020, changes to the Notaries Act allowed Paralegals to become Notaries Public. Karen applied and received her appointment from the Attorney General of Ontario in June 2021.
Shortly after, she opened her Notary Public office in Wortley Village. Her office is located in a beautifully restored 1887 heritage Italianate home.
